Creator workflow:A pre-upload audio checklist for creators
Most audio problems are found by viewers, in the comments, after the video is live. A two-minute check before uploading catches nearly all of them.
The checklist
- Voice clarity. Can every word be understood on a phone speaker? If not, lower the music. Ducking music under voice.
- The first seconds. Does the video open with sound, not silence? The first three seconds.
- The ending. Does the music end on a real ending, not a quick fade? Ending on the music.
- Loops. If you looped music, are the joins inaudible on headphones? Looping a track seamlessly.
- Transitions. Do changes between tracks happen on scene changes? Moving between two tracks.
- Game or location audio. Is any other music in the background muted or cleared?
- Loudness. Is the export around your platform's target, with peaks below about -1 dB? Why your music sounds quieter after upload.
- Source files. Did you use the track you bought, not the chimed preview or a re-encoded copy? WAV or MP3 for video editing.
- Licence. Does the licence cover every platform you are posting to? The licence.
- Records. Is the order number noted against this video? Keeping licence records.
Listen once, all the way through
The last step is the simplest: watch the entire export once, start to finish, on the device your audience uses most. Most mistakes are obvious when you are not looking at a timeline.
