Posting one video everywhere:a music checklist
Posting the same video to YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and elsewhere is one of the easiest ways to grow. It also multiplies any music problem across every platform. A quick check before you post saves headaches later.
Before you post
- Is the music licensed for every platform you are posting to? Check the licence for the platforms covered.
- Are you posting as a creator or as a business? Some platform music libraries treat business accounts differently. Music you licence yourself is covered by its own licence instead.
- Is it an ad or sponsored? Paid promotion can have different rules. See Using music in paid social ads.
Adjust for each platform
- Length. Cut the track to each platform's typical length on bar lines, keeping its real ending, rather than chopping it off.
- Loudness. Platforms normalise differently. A moderate, dynamic mix travels best. See Why your music sounds quieter after upload.
- Opening. Short-form platforms need an immediate start.
Keep proof handy
If a claim ever appears on one platform, you will want your licence and order number quickly. Keeping licence records shows how.
Use music that travels
Platform library sounds are tied to the platform. Music you have licensed yourself goes wherever your video goes.
- Morning in the Kitchen on the Kitchen & Lifestyle shelf
- Pixel Dash on the Gaming & Chiptune shelf
- Evidence Room Ambience on the Mystery & True Crime shelf
Pick the niche that fits your content in the library, and use the same track in every version of the video.
